Why Our Agency Started

Very simple - but with lots of different reasons in mind....................................

We've always loved ceilidhs and barn dances because they are FUN,if run properly.The dances are simple,even for the complete beginner.And we are all beginners at some point in time ! Often,dances are 'progressive' - this means that you can start each dance with a chosen partner but,as the dance progresses,you can be dancing with somebody else,say,EIGHT different people within ONE SINGLE DANCE ! It becomes a great 'ice-breaker' - a bit of tactile encounter with new people where there is no pressure because the dance itself mixes everybody up. We've always believed that lots of people would enjoy a ceilidh or barn dance once they have had a go ! And we have always wanted to encourage as many as possible,especially beginners,to go away thinking they would do this sort of stuff again !

Of course,this all supposes that the music is good,danceable music played by accomplished musicians with a decent PA/sound system.That's another reason why we started the agency - to promote the services of bands/callers that we KNOW can provide the right type of traditionally-based music to which folks can dance and enjoy the night.Over the years,we've bumped into some bands whose services we could NOT recommend (poor musicianship,poor timing for dancing,unsatisfactory PA/sound system) and we have to presume that there are still similar bands out there somewhere.Our agency either knows personally the bands that we promote or has checked out the bands on the highest recommendations from others whose judgement we respect and know to be sound.
